FAQ

Do you still have questions about KORA MIKINO and our products? Here is where you'll find all the answers to them.

Product Information

  • Period Underwear: what is it?

Period underwear is underwear that absorbs your period blood. It looks like normal underwear, but has an absorbent inlay. This means that our SmartLayer Technology is sewn into the crotch area, which prevents you from leaking during your period. The panties are a sustainable alternative to tampons and pads, or can be worn as a supplement to menstrual cups.

  • Period Underwear: how do period pants work?

Period underwear is not too different to your normal underwear. We have designed the period panties to be visually indistinguishable from normal underwear. The complete 'absorbent layer' (the crotch area of the panty) is max. 4mm thick. This layer is what makes the difference in comparison to normal underwear, as it consists of our SmartLayer-Technology. We have developed this layer especially for our period underwear.

  • Period briefs, period panties, menstrual panties, period underwear and menstrual pants: what's the difference?

Period briefs, period panties, menstrual panties, period underwear and period underwear are all beautiful names for the same thing, which is underwear you can wear during your period. We asked almost 800 women from Germany, Austria and Switzerland what they call their menstruation, period, days etc. and what they would call the KORA MIKINO panties. The result was a very clear answer: Period Panties. And that is why we preferably call our underwear for period panties.

  • Period Panties: Which panty is the best?

We leave it entirely up to your judgement which period underwear that is the best. But here are 3 reasons why we think KORA MIKINO is a good choice. Reason number 1: The period panties from KORA MIKINO is produced in Germany and the EU. This is extremely important to us, because fast fashion is simply out of the picture for us. Reason number 2: Our panties is made of the sustainable material MicroModal. This is a kind of vegan silk that comes from sustainable and certified forestry in Central Europe. And from this the 3rd reason becomes apparent, because our regional production not only saves CO₂ there, but you also save a lot during by using it. How much CO₂ do you exactly save? This answer can be found in our change calculator: Change Calculator.

  • Period Underwear: How many hours can you wear them?

Menstrual panties can be worn for up to 12 hours. We recommend changing them in the morning and evening. Of course, your individual blood flow is also decisive. So if you are one of those people with (very) strong menstrual periods, it is possible that the panty may not be sufficient for you on the strong days. You can either change your menstrual panty more frequently during the day or use additional pads, tampons or a menstrual cup (woohoo! - no waste). You decide what suits your everyday life and your well-being best. You can see from the many approximate indications that these are average values. Every person is different and different does not mean abnormal!

  • Period Underwear: Does it feel gross?

Period underwear doesn't feel gross. Every person has a very individual relationship to their body and body fluids. The most important thing, of course, is that you feel good! Period. We see it like this: #itsjustblood. Yes, really! And it's your own on top of that. When you start looking into the subject of menstrual blood, you cannot help but be amazed. It's a pretty fascinating subject. For example, menstrual blood does not clot. And the crazy thing is that science still doesn't know exactly why this is the case.

  • Period Panties: How many do I need for my period?

How many period panties you need during your period depends on your individual blood flow. Usually people bleed around 80 - 100 ml of blood during their entire days of menstruation (4-8 days). For reference: this is equal of 2 small shot glasses. Our period briefs take up to 30ml depending on the model. This is approximately the liquid of 3 normal tampons.

  • Menstrual underwear: What size do I need?

Our menstrual underwear are true to size. For further questions, our Size Guide is happy to help.

  • Period Panties: Does it feel wet wearing them?

The period underwear does not feel wet when wearing them. In the crotch of our panties, there is an invisible absorbent layer incorporated, which ensures to transport the blood to the second layer in just a few seconds which helps making sure the panty is dry to give you a dry feeling.

  • Period Underwear: Can I exchange them if they don't fit me?

You can of course exchange our period underwear if they don't fit you. However, this only applies on the condition that it has not been worn on bare skin. Trying it on is not a problem, but please wear your own underwear underneath! As soon as your return has arrived, we will contact you and arrange the refund. If you paid with Paypal, this is very fast, if you paid with Debit / Credit Card it may take a little longer until the money is back on your account.

  • Menstrual Panties: Do they feel like a diaper or a wetsuit?

Wearing period panties doesn't feel like a diaper or wetsuit. Actually, our panties sit just like normal underwear. An invisible insert (our SmartLayer Technology) is integrated into the fabric of our panties, which prevents something from feeling damp. Just try it out!

  • Period Underwear: Do they smell like period blood?

Menstrual underwear does not smell like period blood. There is no odor at all, as our panties have an absorbent and breathable layer integrated into the fabric. That is why our panties are leak-proof. Would you like to learn more about our technology? You can find all information under Material and suction layer.

  • Periodic Slips: How do I wash them?

Period briefs can be washed at 40° C - 60°C with color detergent or mild detergent. You will find detailed washing instructions here.

  • Period Underwear: Can I wear period underwear for incontinence or mild bladder weakness?

Period Underwear can absorb approximately 30 ml of fluid and can therefore be worn even in cases of slight incontinence or bladder weakness.

  • Period Panties: How durable are they?

The period underwear are as durable as normal panties. Since our certified Silver Technology is directly in the fabric, the antibacterial effect is not reduced after washing. To ensure that the Panty remains in use for as long as possible, we recommend that it you place the panty in a laundry net at 40 degrees to wash them in a gentle wash cycle.

  • Period Underwear: Is less liquid absorbed after repeated washing?

The period underwear does not lose its suction power after washing.

  • KORA MIKINO Period Panties: Where are they produced?

The KORA MIKINO period underwear is produced in partnership with Textile Manufacture in the Swabian Alb, Germany. Depending on quantity, model and specific requirements our menstrual underwear is either completely manufactured directly on site in Albstadt or at locations in other European countries. Compared to the usual supply chains our production is very regional set up. Our textile manufacture has almost 100 years of experience in the field of lingerie and our employees are absolute experts in underwear. In our Sustainability Report you will find all details about our philosophy.

  • KORA MIKINO Period Panties: Are they sustainable?

Yes, the KORA MIKINO period panties are sustainable. We want to make disposable products like tampons and pads obsolete by offering you a reusable, super convenient and easy to use solution: a period underwear! We understand sustainability as a responsibility of ours and every other person. For us sustainability is not a necessary evil, but our plan A. You can read more about it in our Sustainability Report.

  • Period Briefs: Can you wear them for swimming?

Periodic slips should not be worn for swimming. The material will soak up water and cannot catch the blood.

  • Period Underwear: Is it a helpful product for the puerperium?

Period underwear is a helpful product for the puerperium and is a sustainable alternative to all disposable products. We have already received a lot of positive feedback from young mothers and midwives regarding this. Our panties can absorb about 30ml of fluid, so if you have a strong postpartum flow you should therefore stock up on enough spare panties so that you have sufficient replacement panties to change with. Alternatively, our panties can also be used as a 'double bottom' in combination with other hygiene products for the postpartum.

  • Menstrual Pants: How sustainable are they?

Period Panties are a sustainable alternative to tampons and pads. If you want to know how much CO₂ and waste you save? Then take a look at our Change Calculator! With Period Panties you are officially a member of the 'I bleed green' collective. This is the way to the Period Panty Shop.

  • Period Underwear: Do they crackle or rustle when worn?

Period underwear do not crackle or rustle while worn. Many of you will notice a rustling sound when unpacking the KORA MIKINO Period Panty. The crackling is related to the suction layer and may surprise or irritate you at first. When wearing the period panty, the crackling is de facto not audible at all, especially if you wear clothes over the panty. Just try it out.

  • Period Underwear: What material and fabric are KORA MIKINO period briefs made of?

    Update 8 Feb 2021:

Our menstrual underwear produced before autumn 2020 is equipped with silver technology, but this is not harmful as we do not use zinc pyrithone nor nano-silver.

The information below applies to production before autumn 2020:

The period underwear from KORA MIKINO consists of the following materials and fabrics: The underwear is made of 90% MicroModal (beech wood based) and 10% elastane. The suction layer (SmartLayer) consists of 95% polyester and 5% polyamide. The reproduction of odour-causing bacteria is prevented by bioactive silver salts, which are certified with an environmental seal (reaction mass silver chloride and titanium dioxide; silver sodium zirconium salt). Our Panty does not contain any nanosilver or zinc pyrithone. Ökotest warned 2018 against zinc pyrithione in silver finishes. Our eco-silver is free from zinc pyrithione! The used silver is fairly produced in Germany and is ecological and efficient. It ensures hygiene and freshness even at low washing temperatures, thus saving energy. The silver we use has been tested for its ecological effects with the result that the silver has no influence on the biological clarification stages in waste water treatment and therefore no negative impact on the environment. The HOHENSTEIN field study proves that silver is not harmful to the skin. The natural skin flora of test subjects was not affected even when wearing silver-containing antibacterial clothing for long periods. Our product does not have a Bluesign listing, but the silver we use is certified. Our Panty is 100% vegan and certified by Peta. We have also had a laboratory prove that the panty is free of animal ingredients.

  • My parcel was returned to you. What can I do?

In this case, please contact our customer service.

  • My parcel could not be delivered. What happens now?

The first thing you should check is the reason DHL gives to why they didn't deliver the parcel. In order to do this, simply look into the shipment tracking of your order.

At the same time, please also check, whether there are no mistakes in the delivery address.

Your deliver could have the following status:

    1. The shipment could not be delivered and is now being taken to a store/agency for collection
It is possible that the recipient was not present when DHL attempted the delivery. Your parcel can be picked up at a store. The address is noted on the notification card. It is also displayed online in the shipment tracking. When picking up the parcel, please make sure you take an identification card with you.

    2. The recipient can collect the item from the post office from the time specified in the notification
The parcel was redirected to a post office. Usually, the parcel can not be picked up from the postal branch on the same day, but only the following day. When picking up the parcel, please make sure to take an ID with you! It is usually possible to pick up the parcel without an ID.

    3. The recipient cannot be determined (name not on bell/mailbox)
The parcel carrier could not find you or the recipient under the stated delivery address. Please note: The mailbox and bell plate must be labelled with the name of the recipient, otherwise the messenger may not hand over the parcel. The parcel will probably be returned to us.
-> In this case, please contact our customer serviceEnter the shipping address for comparison.

    4. The recipient cannot be determined
There seems to be an error in the delivery address. Or the recipient cannot be found by the DHL deliverer (e.g. missing bell sign). The package will probably be returned to us.
-> In this case, please contact our customer service. Enter the shipping address for comparison.

    5. The shipment does not comply with the shipping conditions
The parcel will be returned to the originator, because it may not meet the specifications. The most common reason for this is an incomplete registration for the DHL Packstation/post office or a typo in the Packstation/post office details. To fully register for this service, you must already have received and activated your personal registration mail. You also need your customer card. The parcel will probably be returned to us.
-> In this case, please contact our customer service. Enter the shipping address for comparison.

    6. The recipient has not picked up the shipment from the PACKSTATION within the nine-day storage period
The parcel was ready for collection in a packing station. The recipient did not pick up the parcel within the storage period. The parcel will be returned to us.
-> In this case, please contact our customer service.

    7. The recipient has not collected the shipment from the store/post office within the seven-day storage period
The package was stored in a post office branch and should have been picked up by the recipient. As this was not done in time, the parcel was sent back to us.
-> In this case, please contact our customer service.

  • Does the packaging tell what I have ordered?

No. Your order will be shipped discreetly in a brown box. In any case, our company address is on the label as sender. Terms like 'period underwear' etc. are not mentioned here.

  • Can I also pick up my order at your office?

No, that's not possible. In our Berlin office, we work diligently, but meanwhile, we have outsourced our warehouse. Therefore, the dispatch handling is carried out exclusively by our logistics partner.

  • What are the shipping costs?

The shipping costs are 5€ to all EU countries. If you spend over 100 EUR, shipping to all EU countries is free.

  • Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. If you spend over 100 EUR, shipping to all EU countries is free.

  • Can I specify a delivery address that differs from the billing address?

Yes, it's possible. During the payment process in the shopping cart, you can first enter your desired delivery address. In the next step, you have the possibility to enter a different billing address.

  • My panty has leaked. Can I complain about the panty?

Usually the panty will only leak if the capacity of 30ml of blood is exceeded. Therefore, the period panty does generally not leak due to a product defect or quality problem. Wearing the Period Panty for the first time, it can be difficult to estimate when the capacity of the suction layer is reached. We generally recommend that you change the panty more often on stronger days or wear it as a back-up to another period product of your choice.

If you are still sure that there is something wrong with the period panty, just send a mail to us. We are happy to take a closer look at the case.
